THE YELLOW WALLPAPER, a one-act opera in seven scenes, will have its world premiere on Wednesday, December 5th at 7:30 pm Central Time in the Bates Recital Hall, at the Butler School of Music. (*Livestream on the web, at www.music.utexas.edu.  ) It's a 75 minute work for two singers and a chamber orchestra of fifteen players, based on the famous novella by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.  Ellie Jarrett Shattles plays The Woman, locked away from friends, family, and all forms of intellectual exercise for three months following the birth of her baby.  Page Stephens plays The Hidden Woman, conjured up in the mind of The Woman, who has become obsessed with the wallpaper in the room in which she's confined.  Dan Welcher conducts the New Music Ensemble, with lighting and projections by Matthew Smith.
